Description of the genus

Shrubs or small trees. Young shoots terete or ± compressed. Leaves petiolate, alternate, simple, entire, coriaceous, penninerved, with densely reticulate tertiary venation; stipules intrapetiolar, usually completely united, deciduous or caducous. Flowers axillary, solitary or in few-flowered fascicles, heterostylic. Sepals (4) 5, valvate, connate at the base, ± coriaceous. Petals (4) 5, white, free, unguiculate, deciduous; nectary appendage small (more rarely absent). Ovary 2-locular. Fruit probably drupaceous.

Worldwide: 6 species, 5 from Kenya to the Cape, 1 in Congo.

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
