Description of the genus

Deciduous shrubs or trees, often with swollen trunks. Leaves entire or lightly lobed; palmately nerved from the base; petiolate; stipules. Inflorescences axillary or subterminal. Calyx with 4-5 reflexed lobes. Ovary of 5 carpels becoming free in fruit, winged.

Worldwide: 11 species: 1 in Cuba; 3 in Africa; 3 in Madagascar and 4 in Tropical Asia, Philippines and northern Australia.

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
