Description of the genus

Life form mostly annual, with some hemicryptophytes and sub-shrubs. Branches and leaves alternate, leaf apex mostly obtuse, rarely with spine or mucro. Stem, leaves, and perianths with long multi-cellular hairs,at least when young. Wing on fruiting perianths mostly present.

Worldwide: Geographical distribution mostly central and southwest Asia, northern and southern Africa.

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
