Description of the genus

Comment: Most species were previously placed in the genus Urera. That genus is now largely restricted to the New World tropics and subtropics with only a few species remaining in West and Central tropical Africa and Madagascar.

Worldwide: 14 species in Tropical and South Africa.

Mozambique: 2 taxa.
