Perennial aquatic herbs (in ours), often rooting from the lower nodes. Inflorescence terminal, glandular-pubescent. Flowers zygomorphic, bisexual. Sepals 3, free. Petals 3, deliquescent, equal or unequal, purple to pink. Stamens 6, fertile, 3 upper different from the 3 lower. Filaments glabrous. Ovary 2-locular, glabrous. Capsule glabrous. Derivation of name: From flos, a flower and scopa, a broom (Latin). Worldwide: 20 species in tropical and warm areas Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
