Bulbous, perennial herbs. Leaf 1(-2), narrowly linear, present only on young bulbs, soon withering and falling. Stem (inflorescence) erect or prostrate, green, copiously and intricately branched or branches fastigiate, persisting until the end of the flowering season. Bracts spurred, small. Flowers white or pale yellow to pale pink, nocturnal. Perianth segments 6, somewhat spreading, fused basally, cohering above when wilted, forming a cap on the developing capsule. Capsule spherical, loculicidal. Seeds semi-spherical, black, shiny. Comment: Based on its unique morphology we prefer to follow the opinions to maintain Schizobasis as a separate genus (Speta, 1998; Stedje 1996, 2001; Martinez-Azorin et al. 2019 ao.) iso sinking it into the greatly inclusive Drimia sensu lato (Manning et al. 2004, 2014).
