Annual herbs, partly saprophytic, but at least partly green; roots filiform, stems usually unbranched, green. Leaves cauline, sometimes basal, lamina green or purplish, scale-like to linear. Inflorescence 2-25 flowered cymes or flowers solitary; floral bracts. Flowers erect, 3-ribbed to 3-winged; perianth persistent in fruit. Fruit an obovoid or ellipsoid capsule, transversely dehiscent. Worldwide: 57 species in tropical and subtropical regions. Mozambique: 1 taxon. |
