Description of the genus

Plants epiphytic or lithophytic, small. Rhizome short creeping or suberect, scales dark brown. Fronds simple, linear to narrowly spathulate, margin entire to sometimes shallowly crenate, glabrous or with hairs, membranous to coriaceous; veins free or occasionally forked, ending a short distance from the margin. Sori up to 2 mm long, oval, without hairs, borne close to the midrib, exindusiate.

Derivation of name: gramma: line; referring to the parallel lines of sori on each side of the midrib.

Worldwide: c. 160 species occuring throughout the tropics and south temperate regions of the world.

Mozambique: 2 taxa.
