Description of the genus

Dioecious trees or shrubs. Leaves paripinnate. Inflorescence short, raceme-like. Flowers unisexual, actinomorphic. Sepals 5-6. Petals 0. Stamens 5-6, inserted in centre of disk. Ovary trigonous, 3-locular; loculi with 1 ovule. Stigma 3-lobed. Fruit 1-seeded by abortion, indehiscent. Seed with an arillode nearly covering the seed.

Worldwide: 7 species in tropical Africa and Madagascar.

Mozambique: 3 taxa.
