Description of the genus

Unarmed shrubs or small trees. Leaves alternate; margin usually revolute Inflorescence a thyrse or capitulum. Sepals 5. Petals (0) 5, cucullate, unguiculate. Stamens 5. Ovary inferior, 3-locular. Fruit a capsule, usually crowned by the persistent calyx.

Worldwide: 150 species (mostly Cape: 140 endemics) in southern Africa, Madagascar and Tristan da Cunha

Mozambique: 2 taxa.
