Description:	Erect perennial herb, growing from a carrot-shaped tuberous rootstock. Stems usually single, milky sap present. Leaves opposite, linear-oblong to lanceolate, up to 20 cm long, sparsely hairy on both surfaces; base slightly cordate. Flowers in terminal or extra-axillary 3-10-flowered subspherical umbels. Corolla 5-lobed nearly to the base, mauve, sparsely hairy outside, hairless inside. Corona lobes arising from the base of the staminal column, basal part clawed with 3 teeth; upper part flat and petal-like, mostly larger than the corolla lobes Fruit in 2 erect follicles, narrowly spindle-shaped, smooth, pubescent.

Notes:
Derivation of specific name:	rosea: rose, rosy whytei: after Alexander Whyte (1834-1908), Scottish plant explorer, and botanist who collected in Liberia, Kenya, Malawi and Uganda.
Habitat:	Grassland, and open woodland.
