Description:
|
Erect perennial herb with annual stems, growing from a vertical tuberous rootstock. Stem with milky latex, single, mostly unbranched, up to 1 m tall, pubescent with short white hairs. Leaves opposite, narrowly linear, up to 14 cm long with stiff white hairs, particularly on the margin and the midrib below. Flowers in terminal or occasionally extra-axillary 3-7(-12)-flowered erect umbels on a peduncle, 7-30 cm long. Corolla lobes orange to purple-red, strongly reflexed, hairless outside, minutely papillose inside. Corona lobes yellow to bright orange, erect and somewhat fleshy, folded; lower margin with a tooth arching over the column. No tooth in the cavity of the corona lobes. Fruit a single follicle, fusiform, c. 8 × 0.5 cm, smooth, hairless, erect on a straight pedicel. |
