Description:
|
Perennial herb, subshrub, shrub or very rarely a small tree. Leaflet elliptic to oblong-lanceolate, sometimes glaucous; base cuneate, rounded or weakly cordate; petiole winged, oblong to obcordate, sometimes nearly as large as the leaflet. Inflorescence usually elongated with flowers arranged in fascicles along the rhachis. Flowers white or yellow, usually with bluish-purple wings and keel. Fruit densely brown-hairy with 1-5 strongly flattened articles. |

No less than 7 varieties have been described and the taxonomy within this group is not yet considered satisfactory. Only var. pteropus and var. whytei (Schindl.) Verdc. have been recorded from Mozambique. It is difficult to separate these varieties in the absence of flowers. |
