Description:
Plants large, robust. Stems up to 90 cm (1.5 m) long, dichotomously branched (once or twice), pendulous. Foliage leaves linear-lanceolate, apex tapering, 20 × 2 mm, dark glossy green, overlapping, coriaceous, grading into the sporophylls. Fertile portion not differentiated; sporophylls lanceolate, attenuate, up to 10 mm long. Sporangia rounded, flattened.
Notes: Resembles H. gnidioides ; H. dacrydioides has sporophylls similar to the foliage leaves, a fertile portion that is barely distinct and a narrowly tapering leaf apex.
Derivation of specific name: dacrydioides: referring to the genus Dacrydium, a conifer with drooping branches of the Podocarpaceae family.
Habitat: Mid to high level epiphyte in shade in evergreen mist forest; sometimes on mossy boulders.

Worldwide distribution: Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Comoro Islands
