Description:
Robust annual. Culms 0.5–3 m. high. Leaf laminae 5–20 mm. wide, one margin crinkly. Panicle 25–50 cm. long, loose. Spikelets 14–20 mm. long. Inferior glume 1/3 length of spikelet, acute. Inferior lemma 7-nerved. Superior lemma 7-nerved, pilose on the body and with a row of 6–8 tufts across the back, bilobed, with an awn 2–3.5 cm. long; palea keels narrowly winged to the apex, the wings terminating in a small clavate appendage, papillose between keels.
