Description:
Perennial with swollen rootstock. Culms 60-150 cm. Leaves: lamina glaucous, neither margin crinkled. Panicle 10-35 cm. Spikelets 5-9 mm; lower glume 1/2 - 3/4 as long as spikelet; lower lemma 3(-5)-nerved; upper lemma 5-nerved, pilose and with a row of 6 tufts across the back, setaceously 2-lobed (setae up to 1 mm), with an awn 6-12 mm. Palea keels narrowly winged.
Notes: Not recorded for Mozambique in Flora Zambesiace Volume 10 part 3; 201 (1989).

Habitat: Confined to rocky habitats in woodland.
