Description:
Robust perennial herb, up to 1.2 m. Leaf solitary, 3-pinnate on a long, thick fleshy stalk with a knee-like swelling in the middle. Flowers 1-5, appearing with the leaf; spathe up to 22 cm long; spadix creamy-yellow.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: boivinii: named after Louis Hyacinthe Boivin (1808-1852), a French botanical collector in East Africa, Madagascar and the Mascarenes.
Habitat: In sand forest and deciduous woodland.
Altitude range: 40 - 1000 m
Flowering time:Nov - Dec
Worldwide distribution: Kenya, D.R. Congo, Tanzania, Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe, KwaZulu-Natal.
