Description:
This species is generally very similar to Xyris rubella but can be distinguished by the smooth, not finely wrinkled sheaths and laminas; the incurved, obtuse or mucronate (not straight and aristate) leaf laminas, and in the more strongly keeled, emarginate and apiculate fertile bracts.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: schliebenii: Hans-Joachim Eberhardt Schlieben (1902-1975), German botanist, photographer, and writer who collected in Tanzania and South Africa.
Habitat: Seasonally wet grassland and on or around rocky outcrops.
Altitude range: 300 - 2200 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Angola, Tanzania, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe but may be more widespread in tropical Africa. Often growing together and mixed in collections with X. rubella.
