Solitary or clumped plants up to 70 cm tall growing from a thick, regularly constricted rhizome with spongy fusiform swollen roots tapering to the tips; leaves often dimorphic, 1-7 in 2 rows or almost so, linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, erect, 4-70 x 1-2 cm., hairless or pubescent with scabrid or ciliate margins; peduncles 1-3 per plant, angled, often glabrous at base and pubescent above, up to 36 cm long; pedicels articulated below middle, up to 5 mm long in fruit, 1-3 per node; perianth white, tepals 7.5-15 mm long, 3(5) veined, stamens shorter than perianth; capsule rounded to deltoid in cross section smooth or slightly ridged; seeds irregularly folded, c.1.6 mm across. |
