Description:
|
Herb, 1-2 m. Leaves 20-60 × 10-20 cm, ovate to elliptic, glabrous, petiolate. Raceme branches enclosed in sheaths. Each flower subtended by a × membranous bract. Sepals c. 1 cm, acute. Petals 3-4 cm, narrowly elliptic. Staminodes 2-3, 4-6 cm, brightly coloured. Flower colour red, sometimes with yellow markings. Capsule 3-5 × 2-3 cm broad, bluntly 3-angled, softly spiny. Seeds c.5 mm in diameter, spherical, hard, black. |
