Description: |
Slender terrestrial herb growin from a fusiform tuber c. 2 cm long. leaves normally 3, largest near the base, lanceolate, up to 6.5 cm long. Inflorescence laxly 3-10-flowered; bracts up to 12 × 5 mm. Sepals greenish to straw-coloured, purple-veined. Petals pale green, often with a pale purple rim and slightly ciliate margins. Lip deep glossy purple, paler or greenish at the tip, up to 13.5 mm long, 3-lobed in the basal half, ciliate along the margin. |
Notes: | Although the actual type specimen is said to be from near Rusape, Makoni District, Zimbabwe (Eyles 8385, K,SRGH) and it also has been recorded once from the Vumba Mts in Zimbabwe(Ball, 2009), this species appears to be otherwise restricted to the Chimanimani Mts of Zimbabwe and Mozambique. |
