Description:
Leafless, pendulous, parasitic shrubs with round stems, 0.5-1 m. Internodes of distal branches long and rounded. Bracteal cups and flowers of both sexes sessile. Flowers unisexual on different plants. Male flowers in triads mostly 4-6 per node, but up to 10 on terminal nodes. Female flowers borne singly, 2-4 per node. Berries sessile, orange, ovoid, tuberculate when young to almost smooth when mature.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: menyharthii: after Lászlò Menyhárth, 1849–1897, Austro-Hungarian missionary and plant collector.
Habitat: In mixed deciduous woodland, wooded grassland and riverine fringes, growing mostly on Ficus, occasionally on Combretum and Syzygium.
