Description:
Dwarf suffrutex, normally less than 20 cm, forming dense carpets from an extensive underground stem and root system. Leaves more or less elliptic with distinct whitish undersides. Inflorescences terminal and axillary, borne almost at ground level. Flowers small, white; calyx densely hairy, sand-coloured. This species is very similar in many aspects to the closely related P. curatellifolia, except for its entirely different growth habit.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: capensis: of the Cape
Habitat: On sandy soils in open woodland and in secondary grassland where woodland has been cleared.

Worldwide distribution: Widespread in tropical Africa from Congo, DRC and Tanzania south to northern Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique and South Africa.
