| Description: | 
Small to medium-sized deciduous tree up to c. 10 m tall. Bark grey, rough, more or less deeply fissured vertically and cracked horizontally. Leaves compound, 6-15 cm long; rhachis channelled above; leaflets in 3-6 pairs, ovate-elliptical to almost rectangular, 2-7 cm long, middle pairs being largest, hairless, bluish-grey when mature, bright maroon-red when young; midvein central. Leaflets often twisted at angles to the main axis, giving a distinctive louvred effect. Stipules persistent, linear to sickle-shaped. Inflorescences in short axillary and terminal branched heads up to c. 7 × 7 cm. Flowers with small white sepals. Pod oblong to obovate, 9-16 cm long, at right angles to the peduncle, pinkish-brown. |
