Description:
See subsp. rugosus for general description details. This subspecies differs in the perennial habit with often decumbebt stems growing from a woody base. The calyx lobes are with brown cilia.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: rugosus: with a wrinkled surface (rugose).
Habitat: Mostly in swampy grassland and dambos, on termite mounds and in cultivated areas.
Altitude range: 900 - 1800 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: CAR, DRC, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola and South Africa.
