Description:
Shrub or small tree with horizontal branches, all parts hairless. Bark grey, smooth but often with fine longitudinal markings. Leaves alternate, obovate to elliptic-oblanceolate up to 13 cm long, leathery, dark green above with distinct small pustules in the centre of the reticulation cells; much paler yellowish-green beneath; apex abruptly pointed; margin entire or with very fine sharp teeth; petiole 3-7 mm long. Stipules triangular-ovate, c. 1 mm long. Flowers unisexual, usually on different trees in small leaf-opposed clusters, small, greenish to creamy-white with yellowish glands on the outside of the sepals. Fruit subglobose or 3-lobed, 7-8 mm long, smooth, green.

Habitat: In low-altitude Brachystegia woodland, Androstachys woodland, coastal and riverine forest, on sandy soils and also in salt marshes.
Altitude range: 0 - 300 m

Worldwide distribution: Somalia,Kenya,Tanzania,Zanzibar, Pemba, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, KwaZulu-Natal South Africa and Madagascar.
