Description:
Erect perennial herb, up to 1.3 m. Tendrils absent. Leaves large, digitately 3-foliolate (rarely 5-foliolate), hairless, blue-green, up to 30 × 8 cm; often flushed deep purple when young; margins sharply serrate. Inflorescences terminal. Flowers greenish-red. Fruit purple-black when ripe.

Derivation of specific name: junceum: Juncus- or rush-like
Habitat: Mostly in Brachystegia woodland.
