Description:
Shrub or small to medium-sized tree. Bark smooth, grey and peeling, revealing a distinctive mottled underbark. Leaves elliptic, up to 10 cm, leathery, shiny green above, paler below, young leaves often bronze; lateral veins numerous and closely spaced; apex tapering to rounded, often with a hair-like tip; margin toothed to subentire. Flowers in branched heads on short side branchlets, bright yellow, c. 2 cm in diameter, sweetly scented, short-lived. Fruit 1-5 small kidney-shaped drupes, grey-green to black, surrounded by the orange-red to red persistent calyx lobes.
