Description:
Usually a rhizomatous shrublet with only leaves and flowers appearing above ground, rarely a proper shrub 1-2 m high. Leaves oblanceolate to narrowly obovate, leathery with a stout or swollen petiole; margin serrulate. Flowers yellow to orange, very short-lived. Calyx spreading, bright red. Carpels 5.
