Description:
Medium-sized to large tree. Bark smooth but often flaking to expose a yellowish underbark; young branchlets 4-angled. Leaves opposite or in whorls of 3, elliptic to lanceolate, up to 12 cm, green above, blue-green with translucent veining below; margin entire; petiole short, often reddish. Flowers in dense, branched axillary heads, white to creamy-yellow, hairy in the centre. Fruit in clusters, somewhat fleshy, round, c. 6 mm in diameter, pale yellow to reddish.
Notes: This species is apparently Near-Endemic to Zimbabwe and nearby areas in Mozambique
Derivation of specific name: vanguerioides: resembling a Vangueria
Habitat: In the margins of evergreen and riverine forest and among rocks.
Altitude range: 990 - 1750 m
Flowering time:Dec - Mar
