Robust shrubby perennial herb, up to 3 m, sometimes woody at the base. Leaves variable in shape and size, from almost hairless to densely hairy (depending on the subspecies). Flowers showy but short-lived, yellow. Sepals and petals 4; stamens 8, short. Capsule pale brown with 8 darker ribs. This subspecies is best recognized by the long spreading hairs on the upper parts of the plant. |
