Shrub or small tree. Leaves in whorls of 4, appressed to spreading, linear to ovate, 1-2.5 mm long, hairless or pubescent and glandular teeth on the margin. Flowers in terminal 4-16-flowered clusters. Style 0.5 mm long; stamens usually 6, more or less equaling the corolla, anthers remaining fused. The flowers produce dust-like clouds of pollen when shaken.
Derivation of specific name: hexandra: with 6 stamens.
Habitat: In rocky mountainous terrain, montane grassland and on the forest edge, often forming dense thickets among rocks and along streams.
Altitude range: 1100 - 2400 m

Worldwide distribution: Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
