Description:
Scrambling shrub with simple coiled tendrils in the axils of the leaves. Branches hairy. Leaves opposite, broadly ovate to almost round, up to 5 cm long, 3-5-veined from the base, shiny dark green above, hairy, leathery. Flowers in many-flowered terminal and axillary heads, white to pale yellow. Fruits ellipsoid, 1 - 1.5 cm long, soft, yellow to orange when ripe.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: matopensis: of the Matobo (Matopos) Hills, South of Bulawayo
Habitat: On rocky hill sides, in Brachystegia woodland, often on termite mound.
Altitude range: 900 - 1600 m
