Description: |
Shrub or variable tree. Leaves are usually in whorls of 3, crowded near the ends of branches. In immature specimens the leaves are distinctly serrate and the branchlets are red (image 2), while in mature trees the leaf margins are usually entire and typically rolled under (image 1). Flowers fragrant, in dense mushroom-shaped heads, white, rarely tinged with mauve. Fruit a small hairy capsule, c. 3 mm embedded in the persistent calyx. |
