Description:
Procumbent perennial with dividing annual stems, up to 25 cm long, growing from a tuber. Leaves erect, linear, up to 80 × 10 mm. Flowers axillary, mostly solitary. Corolla flat and wheel-shaped, velvety, dark red, orange-grey in the centre; lobes c. 10 × 3 mm folded along the length. Outer corona lobes deeply 2-fid longer than the gymnostegium; inner lobes short.

Habitat: Open woodland on compacted bare soil.
Altitude range: 250 - 1800 m

Worldwide distribution: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
