Common names: Sandpaper stamperwood (English)
Status: Native
Shrub or small tree with arching branches. Bark light to dark grey, smooth. Leaves more or less broadly obovate, 4-12 cm long, dark green above, paler below, with soft or scabrid, appressed hairs on both surfaces, lateral veins and net-veining conspicuous; margin entire or with a few widely spaced teeth near the apex. Flowers in terminal heads, white, funnel-shaped, c. 1 cm in diameter, appearing before or with the new leaves. Fruit fleshy, spherical, 5-7 mm in diameter, red when ripe.

Habitat: On sandy and alluvial soils in riverine thickets, open woodland and along the margins of low-altitude forest, often near water courses or on termite mounds.
Altitude range: Up to 1150 m
Flowering time:Oct - Feb
Worldwide distribution: Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
