Description:
Shrub or small tree to 7.5 m, bearing prickles. Indumentum stellate. Branches densely hairy with rusty-brown hairs. Leaves: petiole up to 11 cm long; lamina 10-60 × 4-35 cm, broadly ovate to elliptic, leathery, rough; margin entire to deeply lobed with 7-13 rounded lobes, felty-brown-tomentose and prickly beneath. Inflorescence of axillary cymes. Calyx with linear or lanceolate lobes, accrescent. Corolla white. Fruits green becoming yellowish to dull orange-yellow when ripe. Seeds glossy, minutely warty.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: chrysotrichum: from Greek: chryso, meaning golden and tricho, hair, hence golden-hairy.
