| Description: | Straggling or erect perennial herb, with 6-angled stems up to 2 m long growing from a woody rootstock. Leaves often immature or absent at time of flowering, lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, 2-15 cm long, mostly hairless or shortly hispid on margin and vins beneath; petiole 1-8 mm long. Inflorescences axillary and terminal, lax or congested, 1-2 umbels per axil, together forming one large branched inflorescence on mostly leafless branches. Bracts green in more or less unequal pairs, linear-lanceolate, 6-24 mm long, usually with scattered glands; margin hyline towards the base. Calyx with lobes 3-8 mm long; ciliate; margin hyaline. Corolla 16-30 mm long, pink or purple, rarely white with purple guidelines, with scattered glands and pubescent outside; tube 7-11 mm long; upper lip oblong, 8.5-19 mm long; lower lip elliptic, 8-20 mm long. Capsule 9.5-16 mm long, with sparse mixed glands and hairs at least towards the apex. |
