Description:
Herb up to c. 35 cm tall. Stems very slender, crisped pubescent. Leaves linear-lanceolate, 5-7 mm long hairless, apex with a needle-like point; margin somewhat rolled under. Flowers bright pink, in 1-5-flowered lateral racemes on pedicels 3-4 mm long. Capsule suborbicular in outline, c.5.5 × 5 mm, hairless with a narrowly winged margin.
Notes: Although described as possibly annual, the specimen in the photographs appeared to be perennial.
Derivation of specific name:
Habitat: Little known. Although the specimen in the photographs was found in an undisturbed seepage area of rocky montane grassland, it has also been recorded from cultivated fields (Exell, 1960).
Altitude range: 1300 - 2000 m

Worldwide distribution: Only known from Mt Mulanje, Malawi and Serra de Guruè in Mozambique.
