Description:
Evergreen shrub or small tree, all parts mostly hairless.Leaves alternate, 3-foliolate with leaflets sessile, narrowly elliptic, 5-12 cm long, densely dotted with translucent glands and lemon-scented when crushed; margin entire but often strongly wavy; petiole 1-7 cm long, slender, narrowly grooved without wings. Flowers in much-branched terminal heads, small, yellowish, functionally unisexual; petals and sepals 4. Fruit often slightly 4-lobed, c. 5 mm in diameter, gland-dotted, black when ripe.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: lanceolata: lance-shaped or lanceolate, referring to the leaflets although these are generally narrowly elliptic.
Habitat: In coastal sand forest and on dunes.
Altitude range: 0 - 100 m

Worldwide distribution: Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape Western Cape, South Africa and Mauritius, Reunion.
