Perennial herb short with annual shoots up to c. 40 cm. tall, growing from a woody rootstock often flowering before the leaves appear. Leaves 3–5-foliolate, sometimes practically flat on the ground at maturity; leaflets obovate to oblanceolate, 10–14 cm. long, hairless, sometimes asymmetric at the base; petiole 5–8 cm. long. Inflorescence a dense sub-umbelliform raceme with pedicels 1–2 cm. long. Sepals 1–1.5 cm. long; petals absent. Stamens 50 or more. Young fruits sub-cylindric and ribbed, hairless, verrucose; mature fruits unknown. |
