Description:
Shrub, small tree or liane with mostly hairless yellowish-brown branches, turning blackish, with spreading or ascending axillary or supra-axillary shoots and more or less prominent petiole-bases. Leaves oblong or elliptic to obovate, 5–12 cm long, leathery, dark- or bluish-green and hairless above, blue-green and sparsely appressed-pubescent beneath, with veins more or less prominent above, glandular; petiole 3–8 mm long, hairless. Flowers bisexual, solitary or in pairs, terminal or axillary, pendulous; pedicel 0.4–1.5 cm long, broadening upward, more or less densely appressed-pubescent; bracteole below the middle of the pedicel, triangular or semi-orbicular, very small, c. 0.5 mm long, rusty-pubescent. Sepals ovate-triangular, 1.5–2.5 mm long, free or more or less connate at the base, appressed-pubescent. Petals greenish- to dark-yellow, thick, ovate or elliptic, 5–14 mm long, more or less densely sericeous-puberulous except near the base within, the inner ones about half as long as the outer, obovate, obtuse, appressed-pubescent outside, hairless within. Fruit pendulous on a pedicel 0.8–1.5 cm long; fruiting carpels 2–1, 1–2-seeded, segments ellipsoid or cylindric, 1.3–2 cm long, hairless, finely rugose, crimson; stipes 5–14 mm long.
