Description of the genus

Perennial, completely glabrous herbs, dormant in the dry season; tubers at the end of thin wiry roots. Leaves spirally arranged, mostly in a basal rosette, sessile. Inflorescences sometimes subsessile at first flowering, eventually long-pedunculate, scapose or subscapose, terminal and axillary, composed of 1 or 2 sessile, contracted, bracteolate cincinni arranged umbel-like at end of scape. Flowers regular, pedicelled. Sepals 3, equal. Petals 3, equal. Fruit a 3-valved capsule.

Worldwide: One species only in East tropical Africa

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
