Description of the genus

Trees or shrubs, without spines (in ours). Stipules free. Leaves alternate; the margin entire or the lower half or one-third entire. Flowers in small axillary clusters or solitary, bisexual or unisexual. Perianth segments 4(-5), spreading. Stamens 4(-5).

Worldwide: 100 species, mostly tropical.

Mozambique: 4 taxa.
