Description of the genus

Scrambling shrub. Stipules present, deltoid. Leaves alternate, serrate or crenate. Inflorescence of pedunculate axillary cymes. Flowers bisexual. Sepals 5, the same number as the petals. Ovary 1-locular. Fruit indehiscent, 1-4-seeded. Seeds without an aril.

Derivation of name: Named after W. T. Gerrard, English naturalist who collected in South Africa and Madagascar in the 19th century.

Worldwide: 2 species in tropical and South Africa

Mozambique: 1 taxon.
