Notes: There still appears to be confusion about the taxonomy of this species and the genus. While more recent literature indicates the genus should now be Seriphium, POWO (ao) has both genera as accepted and still lists this species under Stoebe. There also is a published revision, where the former Stoebe (Seriphium) vulgaris s.l. has been split into a number of different taxa and populations from Zimbabwe and Mozambique should now be placed under Seriphium burrowsianum. Until more general and uniform acceptance of a taxonomy is clear, we still maintain the species under its original name.
Plants often show numerous fluffy white galls that could be mistaken for flowers but these are infestations caused by small midges in the family Cecidomyiidae.
