Status: Native
Densely tufted perennial. Culms 20–100 cm. high. Leaf laminae 2–6 mm. wide, flat or some of them convolute. Inflorescence of (1)2–5 racemes, these 1–5 cm. long, bearing spikelets singly on a triquetrous rhachisc. 0.5 mm. wide (sometimes narrowly winged), its margins sparsely ciliate with white or yellow hairs up to 2 mm. long. Spikelets 3–4(4.5) mm. long, pubescent, subacute. Inferior glume 2/3 to almost as long as spikelet, 5–11-nerved. Superior lemma obscurely rugulose.

Habitat: In damp soils, vlei edges and near water.
Altitude range: 1000 - 1800 m

Worldwide distribution: DRC, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mpumalanga South Africa.
