Rambling annual, rooting at the lower nodes. Culms 20–100 cm long. Leaf laminas 1–8 cm long, linear to lanceolate. Inflorescence of 2–10 slender racemes each 2–8 cm long; internodes filiform, glabrous, equalling or exceeding the loosely spaced spikelets. Spikelets 2.5–5 mm long, lanceolate-elliptic; callus shortly barbate. Inferior glume with a broad shallow median groove, glabrous, or finely ciliate near the apex; superior glume weakly keeled or rounded on the back, acute. Inferior floret represented by a lanceolate hyaline scale. Superior lemma 1.5–2 mm long, linear, entire or minutely bidentate, with a capillary awn 6–20 mm long; palea minute or absent; stamens 2 |
