Description:
Small succulent tree up to 7 m high. Branches in whorls, spreading and curving upwards, 2-5-winged, constricted into variably shaped segments, 2.5-5 cm wide with very thin wings; ultimate branches often 2-winged. Spine shields very narrow, usually separate, sometimes extended above to enclose the flowering eye; spines paired, up to 7.5 mm long. flowering cymes solitary on very stout peduncles. Cyathia up to 4.5 × 10 mm, yellow. Capsule up to 9.5 × 23 mm,deeply lobed, exserted on a stout pedicel c. 7 mm long.
Notes: This species is closely related to Euphorbia halipedicola but can be distinguished by the very thin and irregular branch segments.
Derivation of specific name: bougheyi: named after Arthur Stanley Boughey (1913-2000), Rhodesian (Zimbabwean) botanist, collector and former Chair of Botany at the University College of Rhodesia and Nyasaland; friend and colleague of Larry Leach.
Habitat: Dense woodland and thickets.
Altitude range: 0 - 165 m
