Description:
Erect annual herb, up to 1 m. Usually unbranched stems, finely hairy. Leaves opposite, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, margins coarsely serrate-crenate. Inflorescence of several spaced, many-flowered verticils with long thistle-like calyx teeth. Flowers small, white.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: martinicensis: of Martinique where the type specimen was collected
Habitat: It is found mainly in disturbed places and as a weed of cultivation.
